Hello y’all!
As usual, there are a couple of new articles posted on the resources page for you to skim and review.
However, this post will deviate from our regularly scheduled programming. Today, I wanted to post a comprehensive and centralized list of my favorite resources for energy, environment, economics, international relations, and more. Enjoy, and think about how no humans have experienced an earth hotter than ours right now.
Energy and environment specific:
Yale 360
Published at the Yale School of the Environment, Yale 360 is an online magazine that offers opinion, analysis, reporting, and debate on global environmental issues. They have a specific section on energy; highly recommend you check it out!
Substack: Bill Mckibben, The Crucial Years
Sidenote: Substack is a great platform with a bunch of great creators (one of my favorites is Michael Huang’s Daylight Reveries). Mckibben attacks the climate crisis from all angles, with quite a few posts centered around energy. All his archived posts on anything environmental are illuminating and incredibly communicative.
Forbes: Energy Page
If you are looking for something more established and reporting-based, the Forbes Energy Page has tons of great articles on energy developments across the globe; I use it plenty to just read up on all things energy.
Columbia School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA)s: Global Center on Energy Policy
Columbia SIPA has a wonderful subsection: the Global Center on Energy Policy. This organization takes a more policy-oriented approach toward environmental issues, with the majority of its content revolving around energy policy. Subscribe to their newsletter to get updates from their blog and podcast.
New York Times: Climate Forward Newsletter
Climate Forwards is a membership-only newsletter from the New York Times. All articles offer news and insight on everything related to the climate crisis. Literally everything.
New York Times: David Wallace-Wells Newsletter
Another subscriber-only newsletter: David Wallace-Wells writes sharp pieces exploring climate change, technology, and the future of our planet, examining how we might live on it.
General interests in politics, foreign relations, economics, and more:
New York Times:
My absolute FAVORITE news outlet (totally unbiased as I live in New York).
Wall Street Journal
A great “interdisciplinary” source that connects almost all news back to the global economy.
Reuters
Great for international reporting–I find that it usually picks up on smaller events very well.
South China Morning Post
For Hong Kong, China, and Asia in general. It picks up on smaller news but also offers more nuanced (and correct) insights on events in the region.
Foreign Affairs
Not a news source, but definitely one of my favorite magazines: I’ve read every issue since 2018. I also love its home organization, the Council on Foreign Relations; I may not agree with every piece they write, but I find that anything they write is very provoking.
The Economist
Another one of my favorite newspapers. This one is published weekly in Britain with focuses on international business, politics, and technology.
See y'all next week,
Joann.
